Very cheeky birds, but their beauty is only seen when in flight. Otherwise, they are very drab looking. Most common in the South Island.

The North Island parrot is the Kaka and the South Island is the Kea. Both beautiful birds and very clever. When we walked the Milford Track, we saw dozens of Kea, you couldn't leave back packs outside or they would empty them!

steve, Don't park a car near them. They enjoy window sealers, windscreen rubbers and anything not tied down.

Very formidable-looking beak on this bird. I dare say that it could do some serious damage.

Linalinda Eichin, Kiwi are nocturnal, so only come out at night. They also have poor eyesight. They eat roots and leaves and are rarely seen during the day. They are flightless. They are a protected species and are New Zealand/s national bird. (We New Zealanders also call ourselves Kiwis too!) Just thought I would share!!

I saw both Kia and Kiwi birds while in New Zealand. The Kia was sitting in a tree in my sister's yard and the Kiwi was in a sanctuary. Very cool to see different wildlife
