There are certain things that at first glance seem familiar but when given a closer look, have very unique features and secrets. Let's learn about some of them.

#1 You can tell what a French croissant is made of by its shape

An interesting way to tell a butter-made croissant apart from a margarine-made one (especially in France) is the shape it is made in. Croissants made with butter are made in a straight shape while those made with margarine (or other type of cheaper fat) are curved.

#2 Watering your plants excessively in Singapore can attract a $200 fine!

Singapore has a strict water-management policy and except you have $200 to spare, you simply live with this rule.

#3 Cicadas can have extended metamorphosis cycles

Cicadas can live underground as a larvae for an extended period of 17 years before transitioning into adults.

#4 Popcorn is an ancient snack

The origin of popcorn dates back 4,000 years ago. It was used by the Native Americans for food, jewelry and fortune-telling.

#5 Baby owls sleep horizontally

Baby owls maintain an horizontal posture while asleep because their young bodies cannot hold up their heavy heads.

#6 The 3,750-mile long Great Wall of China ends at the Bo Hai sea

The great wall goes on towards the east of China and ends at the Bo Hai sea at Lao long Tou.

#7 The magnolia flower is so old, it appeared way before bees existed

The magnolia appeared so many years ago that even bees weren’t in existence yet to pollinate it. This is why it is pollinated by beetles.
