Have a look at a rare collection of really bright and unforgettable sights that are worth going off tourist routes.
There is a typical set of sights in every city, permanently visited by tourists: main cathedral, main square and something else of that kind in the city center. But sometimes the most interesting things are hidden on the outskirts of the town.
#1 Rainbow Village, Taiwan
This Taiwan village has become so bright just recently thanks to 86-year-old Huang Yung-Fu. He decided his native streets lack some color. So he painted all the walls and asphalt in Taichung village, using the motives of traditional taiwan pictorial art.

This grotto decorated with sea shells is one of the biggest mysteries of the UK. Its creator, time and purpose of creation are unknown. According to different versions, the creators were some ancient heathens, a secret society or witches.
The ornament consists of about 5 million sea shells! Whoever created this, a huge job had been done. The grotto was found accidentally - by a man who was digging a duck pond.

#3 Quinta da Regaleira, Portugal
Quinta da Regaleira is an estate in the town of Sintra. It's an amazingly beautiful and mysterious place. Here you can spend hours walking and enjoying the views of grottos and fountains. But the most interesting is the moss-covered spiral well 27 meters deep. It is also called "an inverted tower".

World's most cheerful cemetery called Cimitirul Vesel is located in the village of Săpânța, Romania. Here on gravestones, deceased people and their former lifestyle are depicted in a caricature manner.
Older tombstones mostly show women with distaffs and men with scythes. Now you can already see bartenders, car mechanics,chemists. These caricatures are followed by jolly rhymes.

#6 Damanhur underground temples, Italy
Not far from Turin there is a mysterious Damanhur commune. In 80s enthusiasts from the commune decided to built a temple, but they were afraid the authorities would not allow them to do that, so they created an underground temple.
It took 14 years to build it. It has several tiers decorated with the use of ancient techniques. It is abundant in leaded panes and pillars, all of which are amazingly beautiful.

#7 Stalacpipe Organ, USA
In one of the caves in Virginia there is an organ, that uses real stalactites as its pipes. It was created in 1957 by a mathematician who used to walk in the cave and noticed that it resonated perfectly.
There is a small hammer attached to every stalactite and managed by a keyboard. There is no other musical instrument of that kind in the world.

#8 White temple, Thailand
White temple Wat Rong Khun is located close to Chiang Rai town, Thailand and looks like an ice castle. It was built relatively recently - in 1997. The road to the temple, as envisioned by the author, represents the path from hell to heaven and goes through dozens of stone hands symbolizing temptations and hesitations.

Built in 1930, Paronella Park was a great success among the public, but then came to a decline. In the end of the 20th century the decision was taken to put the park back in order and and restore it, leaving the moss on stone constructions, because it made a perfect blend with fountains and waterfalls. It only added to the park's attraction and special atmosphere.

Stockholm metro is one of the most unusual in the world. It looks like a cave and a museum at the same time. At on of the stations you can see a giant's boots hanging from the ceiling, another station is rainbow-colored, and so on and so forth.

A mysterious provocative artist Banksy created an anti-Disneyland theme park called Dismaland. It is full of strange and gloomy installations: a woman attacked by pigeons, a flipped over carriage with dead Cinderella, and such like decadency. And all the staff members deliberately wear sullen faces. Definitely, that's a place to visit without kids.

Eve, I'm not a Disneyland FANATIC as such. I would love to go to Disneyland, because I've been to EuroDisney, and loved it. BUT, having said that, you could not pay me enough to go to Dismaland. The world is depressing enough, at times, without places like that
