I have visited Madagascar and I was struck by the poverty! It is an interesting place and I’m so glad I went though it was not a luxury trip by any means but rather very educational. The people are so friendly, so welcoming and always smiling. There are beautiful natural areas, but where there are people, it’s the poverty that dominates.

The Jersey Wildlife Preservation Trust is doing its best to breed lemurs that can eventually be introduced back in the wild.

Deforestation also a big problem in Madagascar. Lemurs losing their natural habitat. One particular species is actively hunted, as it’s considered evil. Can’t remember the name. It’s interesting that baobab trees grow on Madagascar which one finds in Africa, and a sub species in Australia, but not in India. Yet the theory is it broke away from India

Hopefully, Canada, USA and Europe send can openers, canned & dry goods, bottled water and the seeds to Madagascar to feed the needy.
