Why does it say the first artificial heart dates from 2015? The first successfully-implanted one (according to Wikipedia) was the Jarvik-7, in 1982.

The underwater photo is surreal !! The artificial heart: What about Jarvik's work in the 1980s? Thought that was the first.

How about Dr Michael DeBakey who developed a roller pump to transfuse blood from one person to another which later became a compomponet of the heart-lung machine. He later developed a way to bypass clogged artories near the heart.

The first artificial heart was made by the Soviet scientist Vladimir Demikhov in 1938. It was implanted in a dog.
On 2 July 1952, 41-year-old Henry Opitek, suffering from shortness of breath, made medical history at Harper University Hospital[2] at Wayne State University in Michigan with the Dodrill-GMR heart machine. These were primarily used for patients awaiting transplants.
On 2 December 1982, William DeVries implanted the Jarvik 7 artificial heart into Barney Clark, a dentist from Seattle who had severe congestive heart failure. Clark lived for 112 days.
A few are undergoing tests for approval, but none have been classified as a permanent replacement. Most are only good enough for 1 to 5 years service.
